Prompt: What challenges did your group face while selecting and analyzing sources, and how did you overcome them? Be specific about how your group communicated and worked through disagreements.

Prompt: Some of the challenges that our group faced was deciding which source was the most relevant. Many of the sources had useful information, but some sources repeated similar information so we had to choose which one was the best. Our group communicated by talking about what was in each source and we decided together which source was the most important. There were not many disagreements as we all got along well and had similar opinions. Summary: Today we finished the source sheet. Reflection: We were successful.

Prompt: Reflect on your research topic and identify the most compelling issue connected to it. Clearly explain what the issue is and discuss why you find it particularly interesting or important. Support your response with specific details from your research.

Prompt: The most compelling issue connected to my research topic is the opposition to helicopter parenting. I find it interesting because I agree with it and think that parents controlling every part of their child's life is not beneficial. My research taught me that helicopter parenting can actually lead to higher rates of depression and anxiety in children. This is because the child feels they have no control over their life. Summary: Today in class we worked on our source and quote sheet. Reflection: This helped me understand the sources better.

Prompt: How has completing the annotated bibliography changed or clarified your understanding of your research topic? Discuss how your sources connect to one another and how they are shaping your argument moving forward.

Prompt: Completing the annotated bibliography clarified my understanding of the topic as it ruled out some of the options. The neglectful parenting style is definitely not an option for the best parenting strategy and my research ruled it out. Many of the sources mentioned authoritative or flexible parenting styles as the most optimal and I agree. This is likely what the argument for the paper will be about. Summary: Today we continued working on the annotated bibliography. Reflection: I was not able to finish in class.

Prompt: Which part of the annotated bibliography (summary, reflection, or evaluation) was the most challenging for you, and why? Explain how that challenge helped you grow as a researcher and how it will help you when writing your research paper.

Prompt: I thought that the summary was the most challenging part of the annotated bibliography. It was difficult to condense the important information in the very long sources and determine which information was critical to understanding the topic. This challenge helped me grow as a researcher as I had to skim read very long texts and pick out the key information. This will help me write my paper as I can determine if a source is useful quicker. Summary: Today we began our annotated bibliography. Reflection: I struggled with the skim reading at first.

Prompt: As you gathered sources, you were expected to find multiple perspectives on your topic. What differences did you notice between your sources? Explain how these differences helped you better understand the complexity of your issue.

Prompt: Some differences that I noticed were that some sources were in favor of a more permissive style of parenting while others argued for a much more active style. The permissive ones argued that allowing a child to take risks and make mistakes on their own without intervention makes the child more resilient to adversity. Others said that stricter parenting styles would be better at teaching a child the important values they would need in their adult lives. These differences showed the complexity of the issue by demonstrating how people can have very different ways of achieving the same goal. Summary: Today in class we continued searching for sources. Reflection: If was difficult to understand the chart sources.

Prompt: Think about your experience using GALILEO to find sources. How was this different from how you have searched for information in the past? Explain how using specific search strategies and evaluating sources impacted the quality of what you found.

Prompt: Using GALILEO was different to previous ways I have searched for information because I do not have to spend a lot of time searching for credible sources. The sources on GALILEO are credible, so this saves a lot of time and effort. Using more specific search prompts resulted in fewer results that were more relevant to the topic I was researching. Sometimes it was difficult to find relevant sources, however, as GALILEO gave me a few sources that had nothing to do with the search prompt for some reason. Summary: Today in class we started the research phase of the project. Reflection: It was difficult to use the easybib website because of the ad blocker requests.

Prompt: Your research question is designed to explore a complex issue. What makes this topic difficult to answer or solve? Identify at least two different perspectives or factors related to your topic and explain why understanding multiple viewpoints is important.

Prompt: This topic is difficult to answer because it is hard to define what modern parenting is. Some argue that modern parenting is helicopter parenting where parents have complete control over their children's lives. Others say that a more relaxed style has become the norm. Understanding the balance between these two viewpoints is important to find out what their effects on children are. Summary: Today in class we continued our project. Reflection: I think this is an interesting topic.
